Led lights usage caution and solutions.
TRUTH ON LED TUBES
There are LED tubes on the market using LEDs like DIP (5mm). This kind of tube that is found abundantly on the internet or at unscrupulous resellers, offers only poor performance. In addition, the DIP-type LEDs that are used are usually overvoltage to give you the illusion that the tube is illuminating. These have a greatly reduced service life. Tests performed by independent laboratories show that the white diode (white DIP 5mm) will have lost 50% of its luminous flux after 6000 hours!!! It is therefore far from 50,000 hours or 100,000 hours manufacturer. The best is to opt for LED SMD or Power LED based tubes. SMD and Power LEDs, which are more stable, offer a much more penetrating lumen output. After 50,000 hours.
CAUTION FOR USE OF LED TYPE DIP 5mm
With the experience we have accumulated over 4 years, we can share our expertise.
Thus, faced with the proliferation of importers, distributors, installers or resellers of this type of tube, we want to warn the prospective buyers.
This technology is presented as the universal panacea, THE contemporary solution to reduce electricity consumption and extend the life of appliances.
If indeed a quality tube can boast a significant decrease in consumption, it is not the same with respect to its reliability and maintenance of photometric performance during aging of the product.
It should be known that to obtain correct photometric performance, without more, diodes of this type are subject to constant stress, poor heat dissipation, an inadequate neighborhood with integrated power supplies.
These configurations lead to premature deterioration of the diodes, greatly affecting their life.
This means that far from the figures announced by some manufacturers, the performance of these tubes are likely to decrease very strongly from the first year of use (losses of 40 to 60% are common).
(Suffice it to the poor performance of LED lights placed in major DIY stores!)
Other phenomena appear, due to the integrated power supply, overheated, often of poor quality, affecting the operation of the tube (blinking, extinction, etc.)
Are there solutions?
There are two alternatives: either use SMD type diodes or better power leds.
A correct compromise is to use well-cooled SMD and power led too, but ideally away from power supplies whose locations will be preferred outside the tube housing, either integrated into the frame (like a ballast of a fluorescent tube) or; systematize the use of low voltage with feeds grouped at the head of the line.
We believe that the future of industrial lighting with LED tubes, will go through this type of application.
The SMD give very good light rendering and have a very good reliability.
Do not hesitate to ask to have tubes in order to put them long enough to test before acquiring them. The investment is quite heavy, it engages you in an obligation of results, made possible provided that the criteria of departure are respected.
Always take care to measure the consumption of the tubes which are presented to you, some tubes are far from consuming what informs their data sheet
